VMS are delighted to have secured a lease on the ‘William Aston Hall’ Wrexham. The venue currently stages about 100 event days per year from Live Music through to Comedy. With a capacity from 870 (fully seated) to 1200 Seated/Standing. The venue offers a great degree of flexibility in both layout and format. Current events on sale include UB40 to Rhod Gilbert and Alexander O’Neil to the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra.
Steve Forster (VMS Live MD) commented on the acquisition, “having worked with the University for the last 4 years as venue consultants , I am delighted VMS have now taken on the lease of the building and will be responsible for its overall operation. The venue itself will fall under the control of Operations Director, Richard Maides (and VMS Operations Manager Aoife Niblock, alongside existing member of staff Mark Fleming). While Carl Bathgate (Commercial Director for VMS), will oversee the Promotions Team with Paul Ingleby taking on the role as in-house Promoter. As part of the takeover, Ticketing will become the responsibility of the in house Ticketing Operation – VMS Tickets (powered by Eventim)”.
Richard commented, ‘the WAH is already an established venue and we believe that as part of the expanded VMS family we will bring additional skills and investment that will undoubtedly improve the entire Venue operation. As part of this our immediate investment in new PA & Lights will hugely improve the venue to both customers and visiting productions alike. Further investments are planned for new customer seating and bar facilities. All designed to give the venue the best chance of long term success’.

Carl Bathgate further commented, ‘The venue really is very flexible, equally at home staging Live Events through to Comedy and Theatre. It’s in a great location with easy access and free parking on site. It already delivers a good number of shows across a variety of genre’s. However, past production limitations have perhaps made it less competitive as a venue. We firmly believe that with the new PA/Lighting we have installed, it becomes a far more cost effective venue to operate both for external hirers and to ourselves. With this in mind our aim is to increases traffic by 25% in 2019, at the same time improving both the quality and range of events. Overall Comment On Forthcoming VMS Developments
Discussing recent developments in the Company, VMS Managing Director, Steve Forster commented. “This is a really important period for VMS. Over the last 5 years we have more or less doubled in size year on year. While retaining the ethos of a small business we are in the position where we have had to decide whether we going to look to expand further or try and consolidate our current position. With the opportunities that were presented to us, we very much decided to go down the route of expansion. As an entirely self funded business, this does still mean that we have to carefully select the opportunities that we look to pursue. In this light we will be announcing a series of projects that we believe will be key to our future success and help to balance our portfolio of venues and partners.
We promote events in our own right such as the Urban ‘Inner City Live’ brand (2018 shows with Orbital, Wombats, Levellers, Chase & Status, UB40 for example) as well as working with partners in a variety of different formats. For example we have an ongoing arrangement with ARC to deliver their ‘Music Live’ (music after racing) across their racecourse estate (2018 saw events with, Brian Wilson, Kaiser Chiefs. Happy Mondays, James Blunt among others), as well as developing stand alone events on non Race Days (e.g. Brighton Racecourse – with Orbital, Faithless, Gentlemen’s Dub Club) and we are already well on with plans for 2019. Alongside this we have venue arrangements that vary between ‘Booking Services’ through to full ‘Venue Management’ arrangements. So we really do offer an entirely bespoke service to each individual client. In this sense ‘balancing our portfolio’ and ensuring that we have the appropriate mix of management contracts, venues etc is very important to the long term development and success of the business. With this in mind the acquisition of the William Aston Hall is the first of a number deals that we hope to announce in the near future. As an entirely self-funded independent, with no debt or bank loans, we are incredibly proud of the way we have developed the business over the last 7 years.
